How does the NHS in England work and how is it changing?
When the NHS was originally set up, it focussed primarily on treating single illnesses or conditions. Now, more people are living longer and many have multiple, long-term conditions that need regular ongoing care.
The NHS has not always kept pace with this changing population and many sectors have continued to operate independently, without sharing information or working together. This can make navigating the system difficult and lead to poorer patient outcomes.
Watch the video above from The King's Fund, to see how the 2022 Health and Care Act aims to make it even easier for organisations to work together and join up services to improve patient care.
