If you care for someone who couldn’t manage without you, do you get enough GP support yourself?
We know some carers are not registered as a carer with their GP practice and we also know that carers who are registered, do not always receive the level and quality of support they deserve.
It’s important that you register as a carer with your GP practice. This entitles you to additional support, including free annual health checks and flu vaccinations, greater flexibility when making appointments and signposting to local support groups and services.
Unfortunately, not every carer receives as much help as they should from their GP practice.
If you are a carer, we want to hear your views and experiences, so we can help GP practices better support carers living in Hertfordshire.

Am I a carer?
You are a carer if you provide help and support to a family member, friend or neighbour who would otherwise not be able to manage.
The person you care for may have a physical or learning disability, dementia, mental health problems, may misuse drugs or alcohol, or may be ill or frail.
The person may live with you or elsewhere, may be an adult or a child. Whatever the circumstance, if they rely on you for support, then you are a carer.
If you think this applies to you, we would encourage you to register with your GP and also share your views and experiences with us.
If you need more advice, help and information about being a carer, you can also contact Carers In Herts online or call 01992 58 6969.
How will sharing my experience make a difference?
By sharing your views, you will be telling NHS leaders how they can ensure that GP practices are identifying carers and providing them with the additional support they are entitled to.
How will my information be used?
